Synopsis: The chief minister added that the delimitation exercise will be completed before the next elections. The number of Assembly seats will go up from 119 to 182, and the Lok Sabha constituencies from 17 to 26, he said in Khammam.

Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Friday, 10 July, predicted that the next state Assembly elections, due in December 2028, will be postponed by six months.

Speaking at a public meeting in Khammam to mark the release of funds to farmers under the “Rythu Bharosa” scheme, Reddy said he was sure that the Assembly elections will be held along with the Lok Sabha elections, around May-June, 2029.

Reddy implied that Telangana elections would be deferred in line with the “one nation, one election” proposal of the Narendra Modi government, which would see Assembly polls in some states getting clubbed with the Lok Sabha elections.

The chief minister added that the delimitation exercise will also be completed before the next elections. The number of Assembly seats will go up from 119 to 182, and the Lok Sabha constituencies from 17 to 26.

“Of the 182 Assembly seats, the Congress will win more than 117 seats and form the government again,” Reddy claimed.

Revanth fires at BRS

Spewing venom at the family of former chief minister K Chandrashekar Rao, the chief minister said that his estranged daughter, Kavitha, was herself alleging large-scale corruption during the 10-year-rule of Bharatiya Rashtra Samithi.

“There are a lot of differences within the family. KCR’s nephew Harish Rao (former minister) is constantly in touch with the BJP as he is not happy with the goings on in the party,” Reddy said.

The chief minister ridiculed BRS working president KT Rama Rao’s claim that his party would win a majority of the seats whenever elections are held.

“How can he make such a claim without even knowing when elections will be held and how the seats will be reorganised?” he asked, contradicting the prediction he made minutes before in the same speech.
