In continuation of his foray into various parts of Maharashtra, Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao on Thursday, 15 May, stepped on the soil of Nagpur with a message to the people of the neighbouring state to elect a party that would bring about a qualitative change in their lives.

The chief minister, after inaugurating the party office located near Sai Temple on Wardha Road in Nagpur, addressed a public meeting where he reiterated his belief that unless there was a change in the way one thought, there would be no future for the country.

‘Time for change’

“Over the years, the country has become a prisoner of electoral politics, with development taking a backseat. It is time one came out of this rut and saw the last of the practitioners of electoral politics whose aim is to come to power, come hell or high water,” he said

The chief minister has already addressed three public rallies in Maharashtra, mostly in the Marathwada region, between February and April this year.

He is planning to open BRS offices in Mumbai, Aurangabad, and Pune shortly as he intends to test the political waters in the neighbouring state ahead of ensuring local body elections.

The chief minister, in his address to the farmers in Orange City — which is the headquarters of the RSS, the ideological parent of the BJP — said that development was possible only when one began thinking differently.

‘Scared of the country’s future’

Underscoring the need for a country to have a goal, KCR said that he was scared to think about the future of India since it remains rudderless.

“The politicians of the day are obsessed with winning elections and this is sure recipe for disaster,” he said, adding: “Though Maharashtra is number one in India on several economic parameters, people in Aurangabad get drinking water once in eight days,” the chief minister said.

The fate of Delhi is no different. Though it is the nation’s capital and is situated in the Ganga-Jamuna delta, it is a luxury for the people if they get water to drink and have an uninterrupted power supply, he added.

Referring to the plight of the Dalits in the country, KCR said that they continue to live in abject poverty. He said, unless there was a change in their living standards, the country could not move forward.

‘There would be no change in Karnataka’

Recently, in Karnataka, the Congress won the Assembly elections and the BJP lost but there would be no change in the quality of life of the people who live there, he pointed out.

He reiterated that it was time that the nation tapped the vast water resource it has.

“Even today, water in thousands of TMC is flowing into the oceans, waste. Though India tops in the world in having the most irrigable land, farmers have no access to water. If the rulers apply their minds, every acre in the country could have access to an irrigation facility,” he said.

“Though we have no shortage in the supply of coal, we have a scarcity in the supply of power. The farm sector in several states has no assured power supply. In the past, more farmers used to die by suicide in Telangana than in other states but now the situation has dramatically improved. We are now providing power to the farm sector free and round the clock,” he added.
