Six students drown during Ganesh idol immersion in Telangana’s Sangareddy
The students had gone to the lake for the immersion. They entered the water despite not knowing how to swim and drowned. Their bodies were later recovered and shifted to Patancheru hospital.
Synopsis: Six students drowned in Nereducheruvu lake in Telangana’s Sangareddy district on Wednesday while taking part in a Ganesh idol immersion. The victims, were all students of Shireesha Charitable Trust and had entered the lake despite not knowing how to swim.
Six students drowned in Nereducheruvu lake during the immersion of a Ganesh idol at Peddakanjerla village in Patancheru mandal of Telangana’s Sangareddy district on Wednesday, 16 September.
The deceased were identified as Narasimha Raju, Sumanth and Ganesh, all second-year diploma students; Uday Kiran, a third-year diploma student; Shyam Kumar, a first-year diploma student; and Siddharth, a Class 10 student. All six were students of Shireesha Charitable Trust.

Health Minister Damodar Rajanarsimha spoke to the district Collector and took stock of the situation.
Chief Minister Revanth Reddy expressed shock over the deaths and directed the district administration to support the victims’ families and ensure adequate safety precautions during future Ganesh immersions.
