Amid the ongoing Sankranti festival, three more people — including an Indian Army soldier and a 15-year-old — died in Hyderabad owing to incidents involving kite-flying.

While one of the three incidents occurred on Sunday, 14 January, the rest took place a day earlier.

An 11-year-old boy was electrocuted while flying a kite on the terrace of his apartment around 3.15 pm in the Attapur area of the city on Friday.

Armyman, youth die

In the first incident, a 20-year-old named Akash accidentally fell from the top of a building in Alwal on Sunday while engaged in kite-flying.

He was the son of an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) attached to the Alwal Police Station, the cops told South First.

A case in this regard was registered at the Petbasheerabad Police Station under CrPC Section 174 (police to inquire and report).

The second tragedy occurred on Saturday when K Koteshwar Reddy (30), a soldier, tragically lost his life after sustaining injuries when a kite’s manja string slashed his throat while he was riding his two-wheeler on the Indira Reddy flyover in the Langar Houz area of the city.

The incident occurred around 6.25 pm on Saturday evening, as per the FIR copy that South First accessed.

Once the string slashed his throat, it led to severe injury and bleeding. Despite being promptly taken to a hospital, he succumbed to his injuries during treatment.

The deceased, originally from Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh, served as a driver at the Military Hospital in the area, the police said.

A case was registered at the Langar Houz Police Station under IPC Section 304 (causing the death of any person by negligent act not amounting to culpable homicide) in this regard.

The other incident

In the second incident, Shiva Kumar (13) tragically fell from the terrace of a four-story building around 1:30 pm on Saturday while engaged in kite-flying on a rooftop with friends in Nagole.

The deceased boy was an eighth-class student at the Zilla Parishad High School (ZPHS) in Nagole.

As per the FIR copy, accessed by South First, the boy landed on the asbestos roof of the adjacent house, causing severe injuries, especially on his head.

Despite being rushed to a private hospital, he unfortunately passed away on Saturday night.

On Friday, Tanishq (11) came in contact with a high-voltage electric livewire when he was playing with his cousin on the terrace of his apartment.

A case of negligence under Section 304(A) (causing death by negligence) of the Indian Penal Code was registered against the management of the apartment by the Attapur police.

Demanding strict action, the deceased child’s uncle Abhishek Ubale told South First earlier, “A high-voltage live electric wire was lying open and improperly on the terrace of the building.”
