BRS working president KT Rama Rao on Tuesday, 26 March, predicted that Telangana Chief Minister and Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee chief A Revanth Reddy would join the BJP after the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

The BRS leader has been saying that there was a tacit understanding between Revanth Reddy and the BJP.

He added on Tuesday that the Congress would not be able to get even 40 seats in the Lok Sabha polls.

“If there is any leader who will join the BJP immediately after the Lok Sabha elections, it is Revanth Reddy,” he said, asserting that it was bound to happen and that one could record his statement for future reference.

The BRS leader was speaking at a constituency-level meeting in the the Secunderabad Lok Sabha segment.

‘Not afraid of empty noises’

Speaking on the occasion, KTR wondered aloud what more proof one needed than Revanth’s silence to the criticism that he would migrate to the BJP sooner than later.

“Revanth Reddy reacts to all the points that I raise against him, except the one that he would be joining the BJP,” said the BRS leader.

He added that Revanth Reddy had not even once said he would stay with the Congress for the rest of his life. “On top of it, he keeps saying that phone-tapping took place when the BRS was in power,” he said. “If any snooping took place, let him order an inquiry and ferret out the truth. We are not afraid of his empty noises,” said KTR.

He also lashed out at the chief minister for not coming to the rescue of farmers who were reeling under the impact of adverse seasonal conditions.

KTR said phone-tapping was an issue brought to centre-stage only to divert the attention of the people from his party bleeding the builders and rice millers white for money for use in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

The BRS leader accused Revanth Reddy of supplying ₹2,500 crore to his party bosses in Delhi for election expenses. “Why are you not giving permission for buildings in Hyderabad? Isn’t it to extort money? Isn’t it daylight robbery?” he asked. KTR also slammed Congress leaders for finding fault with former chief minister K Chandrashekar Rao for each and everything.

On Kavitha’s arrest

Disapproving of the strong-arm tactics of the BJP at the Centre to subjugate its political rivals, he said only KCR and Chief Ministers Arvind Kejriwal and Mamata Banerjee were capable of taking on Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The BRS leader said: “The Congress is incapable of fighting the BJP. Only, our leader KCR, Arvind Kejriwal, and Mamata Banerjee can stop Modi in his tracks.”

His comments came on a day when his sister and BRS MLC K Kavitha was remanded in judicial custody till 9 April for her suspected role in the Delhi Liquor Policy scam. She underwent grilling by the Enforcement Directorate at its office in Delhi till Tuesday after her arrest in Hyderabad on 15 March.

The BRS working president said that the Congress had spread vile that the BRS was the BJP’s B-Team because the national probe agencies did not arrest Kavitha in the liquor scam.

However, the ED did not arrest her because there was a stay on her arrest by the Supreme Court, he noted. After that, ED officials flew down to Hyderabad and arrested her as though they were exacting revenge on her, he said.

KTR added that it was not just Kavitha but two chief ministers as well who had been arrested, and that the trend is continuing.

It indicated that the BJP was intent on arresting all Opposition parties on some pretext or other, he claimed. “What does the Congress have to say about Kavitha’s arrest now?” he asked.

‘Congress is useless’

KTR said only the leaders of strong regional parties were capable of checking Modi.

“The Congress is useless. If the reign of repression has to end, it is possible with only KCR, Kejriwal, and Mamata,” he said. The BRS leader claimed that the entire nation was in peril now.

Referring to the election to the Secunderabad Lok Sabha seat, he said BRS nominee T Padmarao Goud was sure to win and BRS turncoat Danam Nagender, who is contesting on a Congress ticket, was sure to lose.

“Our fight is with the BJP. The Congress is nowhere near us,” he said.

KTR also pointed out that Padmarao Goud was a local man and that he had a good rapport with people in the entire constituency.
