Synopsis: Revanth Reddy urged voters to end what he called “gadi” (feudal) politics and back a “People’s Telangana”. Playing on the town’s name, he said Sircilla, meant to be a land of prosperity, had been turned into a place of distress (uscirlla) by BRS-era decisions.
Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Wednesday, 30 September, during his first visit to Sircilla, the constituency represented in the State Assembly by BRS working president KT Rama Rao (KTR), urged the people to elect a Congress candidate in the next Assembly elections and promised a Cabinet position.
As part of his visit to the erstwhile Karimnagar district, Revanth Reddy laid foundation stones for several development works and inaugurated new government offices. These included Young India residential schools, temple renovation at Vemulawada, and new revenue and police buildings.
In Sircilla, the Chief Minister began with a march through the town’s main roads alongside ministers and party workers, before addressing a public meeting. Revanth Reddy urged voters to end what he called “gadi” (feudal) politics and back a “People’s Telangana”. Playing on the town’s name, he said Sircilla, meant to be a land of prosperity, had been turned into a place of distress (uscirlla) by BRS-era decisions.
In response to KTR’s demand for a white paper on Sircilla’s development, Revanth challenged him to release one on the Kalvakuntla family’s properties instead.
He alleged that KTR, who first won the Sircilla seat by only 172 votes in 2009, had built wealth worth ₹1 lakh crore. He alleged that the family owned farmhouses at Janwada, Shankarpally, Moinabad and Erravelli, and five-star hotels near HITEC City.
Reddy said that KTR’s investments in the US and Singapore would come out in a “part two”.
Reddy said weaver suicides and Gulf migration continued despite KTR’s repeated wins in Sircilla. He claimed the Congress government spent ₹1,730 crore on weavers in two and a half years, compared with about ₹2,000 crore by the BRS in a decade.
In an offensive attack against KTR, Reddy referred to him as someone who cleaned toilets and scrubbed dishes in the USA.
“The man who once cleaned toilets and scrubbed plates in hotels in America, how did he amass such wealth?” Reddy asked.
‘BRS, KCR and KTR will be the past’
Reddy said BRS chief KCR won in Karimnagar in 2004, 2006, and 2008, but abandoned the people to move to Palamuru in 2009, and later to Gajwel. He also accused him of skipping the Assembly to avoid addressing a Dalit Speaker.
“BRS, KCR and KTR will be the past,” Revanth said, adding that the Congress would remain in power until 2034.
He revisited the 2017 Nerella incident, in which Dalits protesting illegal sand transport were allegedly tortured. He also criticised the BRS over Manair sand mining and the Kaleshwaram project.
Revanth urged TPCC president B Mahesh Kumar Goud to nominate a leader from the Padmashali weaver community to the Legislative Council next time.
The rally is the first in a series planned in BRS strongholds ahead of the 2028 elections, with Siddipet, represented by T Harish Rao, to follow soon.
