Ramoji Film City accident: Vistex Asia president Raju Datla still on ventilator support

Vistex Asia Pacific’s president Raju Datla, who suffered grievous injuries in a freak accident at Ramoji Film City in Hyderabad, was shifted to another branch of Yashoda Hospital in Hitech City, where he continues to be on ventilator support.

Datla suffered the injuries when an iron cage that was being lowered to the stage, crashed after a cable holding it snapped on Thursday, 18 January.

The company’s CEO, Sanjay Shah, 56, who was with Datla, succumbed to injuries while undergoing treatment the same day.

The stunt was performed as part of the firm’s silver jubilee celebrations, and the men were being lowered to the stage as part of introducing them to the audience.

The 6-mm cable holding the cage — with a metal platform and wooden railings — snapped at a height of about 20 feet, throwing both the men onto the concrete below.

Meanwhile, sources told South First that Shah had suffered multiple injuries and fractures. He suffered fractures on the skull, ribs, spinal cord, and other parts of the body, according to a medical report that would be handed over to the police.

Hospital sources said Datla was shifted to the Hitech City Hospital from Malakpet on Tuesday, 23 January.

The police had initially registered an FIR under Sections 336 (act rashly or negligently as to endanger human life), and 287 (negligent conduct concerning machinery), read with Section 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). It was later altered to include Section 304 A (causing death by negligence) after Shah’s death.

The police have also booked the management of Ramoji Film City, the event management firm, and others responsible for the safe conduct of the programme, reports said.
