PM talks of reaching out to backward Muslims, Shah is promising to remove their reservation, says Owaisi

All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) president Asassuddin Owaisi on Monday, 24 April, slammed Union Home Minister Amit Shah a day after the latter said that the BJP would abolish reservations for Muslims if it was voted to power in the Telangana.

Owaisi urged the saffron party leader to “speak about record-breaking inflation and unemployment” and stop crying foul over the AIMIM leader.

Shah, at a massive public meeting organised on Sunday by the BJP state unit at Chevella in the Ranga Reddy district, said: “The abolition of reservation for Muslims would benefit the BCs, STs and STs in the state.”

Earlier, the BJP-ruled government decided to do away with the 4 percent reservation quota for Muslims under the 2B category of reservation for backward communities in Karnataka.

Taking to Twitter, the AIMIM chief wrote, “Besides anti-Muslim hate speech, the BJP has no vision for Telangana. All they can offer is fake encounters, surgical strikes on Hyderabad, curfews, releasing criminals & bulldozers. Why do you hate people of Telangana so much?”

He added: “Ye ‘owaisi owaisi’ ka rona kab tak chalega? (How long will they cry over Owaisi?)”

He added that while Prime Minister Narendra Modi talks of reaching out to backward Muslims, Shah is promising to remove their reservation.

“Modi allegedly says reach out to pasmanda (Dalit) Muslims, Amit Shah complies by promising to remove their reservation,” Owaisi said in a social media post.

What did Shah say?

Taking a dig at the BRS, Shah said that the party’s election symbol “car” was in the hands of the AIMIM, and that Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao (KCR) was implementing the AIMIM’s agenda.

The BRS government was hesitating to celebrate the “Telangana Liberation Day” officially as it is worried about the AIMIM, but the Central government and the BJP would organise it officially on 1 September every year, just like it was conducted last year at Parade Grounds in Secunderabad, said Shah.

He said the huge turnout at the public meeting reflected the countdown to drive out the corrupt BRS government in the state, and that the BJP would form the government in the next elections with the support of the people.
