Synopsis: Konda Surekha told the TPCC that she could not be held responsible for her daughter’s remark against Chief Minister Revanth Reddy and the party.
Telangana Minister for Forest and Endowments Konda Surekha has written to the Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC)’s Disciplinary Committee, asking it to withdraw a notice issued against her.
In a letter dated 20 August, addressed to the committee chairman and Nagarkurnool MP Dr Mallu Ravi, Surekha said the remarks in question were made by her daughter, Konda Susmita Patel, and reflected Susmita’s personal opinions.
Surekha said several events were held yesterday (Wednesday, 19 August) celebrating her birthday, and her daughter attended the one at Geesugonda (Surekha’s native place) as the chief guest.
She argued that she could not be held politically responsible for another individual’s views merely because of family ties. She said such an expectation runs counter to natural justice.
Surekha affirmed her respect for the Congress leadership and its disciplinary code.
She requested the TPCC to consider these facts and constitutional values. She asked the committee to recognise that she had no hand in her daughter’s comments, and withdraw the notice it issued.
The TPCC panel issued the notice a day earlier, after Susmita used her mother’s birthday celebration to launch an attack on Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy.
The Disciplinary Committee said it had verified Susmita’s comments made in the Parkal assembly constituency against the chief minister and MLA Revuri Prakash Reddy and found them inappropriate.
The committee said that it decided to launch an investigation into the matter and asked Minister Surekha to explain within the next three days.
Susmita had accused Revanth Reddy of becoming arrogant after becoming the Chief Minister and claimed that the ruling Congress in Telangana has effectively become a “TDP Congress”.
According to her, original Congress leaders are unhappy with the party’s current situation.
Susmita further alleged that the Chief Minister is afraid and is using the Intelligence Department against his own ministers.
She also charged that a ₹200 crore land deal involving the Chief Minister’s brother has taken place and warned that many scams linked to the CM’s family would soon come to light.
In the same set of remarks, Susmita made her position on the Parkal Assembly seat clear. She stated that she is the next MLA of Parkal and asserted that she is ready to contest the election independently if the Congress does not give her the party ticket.
She questioned how the Chief Minister could declare support for sitting MLA Revuri Prakash Reddy when elections are still two years away and asked whether the leadership was ignoring the claims of Backward Class leaders.
