BRS working president KT Rama Rao speaks at the Mahbubnagar Lok Sabha constituency-level meeting in Hyderabad on Thursday, 18 January, 2024.

BRS working president KT Rama Rao on Thursday, 18 January, went for Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy’s jugular.

He asked how the Congress leader could rub shoulders with Adani Group Chairman Gautam Adani in Davos in Switzerland after saying that the Gujarat businessman and Prime Minister Narendra Modi were on the same page.

Reventh Reddy and several other politicians were in Davos to seek investment for their states and countries from businessmen across the world on the sidelines of the latest World Economic Forum (WEF) meeting.

KTR on the BJP: ‘No alliance in past, and there will be none in future’

The Adani jabs

Speaking at the Mahbubnagar Lok Sabha constituency-level meeting in Hyderabad, the BRS leader said several telltale instances had proved that the Congress and the BJP were in league with each other.

He said: “BJP national secretary Bandi Sanjay Kumar had said that it was time for the Congress and the saffron party to work together to bury the BRS once and for all.”

KTR continued: “Rahul Gandhi says Adani and Modi were two faces of the same coin. On the eve of the recent Assembly elections, Revanth Reddy had alleged that the ₹18 lakh crore money that Adani had plundered would go to Narendra Modi. Now, one can see bonhomie blossoming between Adani and Revanth Reddy in Davos.”

KTR demanded that the Congress spell out its stand vis-a-vis Adani. “The party should come clean on why it is fighting Adani in Delhi and is pally with him outside,” he said.

He also said he suspected that the Congress government in Telangana was engaged in friendship with Adani under instructions from the BJP. The BRS workers should expose the unholy nexus between the Congress and the BJP, he said.

Slamming Congress guarantees

Referring to the six guarantees of the Congress in the run-up to last year’s Telangana Assembly elections, he said that the number of promises was 420 and the party leaders should keep reminding the people of the Congress’ “420 promise”.

The BRS leader said that the Congress expressed its helplessness in forcing the Union government into giving national project status to the Palamuru-Rangareddy Lift Irrigation Scheme (PRLIS).

“Revanth Reddy and Irrigation Minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy recently met the Union Jal Shakti minister but drew a blank. The Union minister told them that there was no way he could accord the PRLIS national-project status,” noted KTR, stressing the point that the Congress government was dragging its feet on bringing pressure on the Union government on the issue.

He said the Congress ministers were making contradictory statements on the promises made to the people.

“In the Assembly, the deputy chief minister said that the Congress had never promised an unemployment dole to the youth even though party general secretary Priyanka Gandhi announced ₹4,000 per month as unemployment allowance,” he said.

The former Telangana minister said the state’s agriculture minister was now saying that the crop loans would be waived in phases, which conflicted with Revanth Reddy’s statement that crop loans up to ₹2 lakh would be waived in one go.

Dissecting BRS loss

KTR also said the Congress government in Telangana had not yet begun the disbursement of funds to farmers under the Rythu Bandhu scheme, started by the BRS.

“When the BRS was in power, it used to disburse Rythu Bandhu money to 70 lakh farmers at the rate of 10 lakh farmers per day in a matter of days,” he noted.

“Several sections of society are unhappy with the performance of the Congress government in the state. The days of standing in front of shops for fertilisers have returned. Soon, fertilisers might be stocked in police stations given the scarcity. If this trend continues, the people will revolt against the government within six months,” he said.

KTR contended that though the BRS lost the Assembly elections, one should bear in mind that it was very strong in the state.

In the recent elections, the BRS got only four lakh fewer votes, which resulted in power changing hands in the state, he said, adding that the party, which has a presence in every village, will not take much time to bounce back.

He said that the BRS lost the election because of of vicious and malicious campaign by the Congress though the previous government delivered welfare schemes, filled job vacancies, and distributed ration cards.

KTR said that the BRS lost the election because the people could not differentiate between the party and the government.

They did not realise that all the welfare schemes delivered to them were from the BRS, which was running the government, he said, adding that they were under the impression that BRS and the government were different.

The BRS leader said that going forward, all programmes the BRS would come up with would first be discussed in the party.

The feedback from the party leaders and workers would be presented before party president K Chandrashekar Rao for a final decision, he said.
