KTR KT Rama Rao

BRS working president KT Rama Rao on Wednesday, 13 December, took on the Congress for coming to power by making tall promises without understanding whether they were realistic at all.

The former Telangana minister told reporters at the BRS Legislature Party office wondered: “Would anyone make an announcement first and then calculate how much money was required for implementing it? This is what has happened in the state now.”

The BRS leader took another swipe at the Congress government for saying that it would come out with a white paper on finances.

“What better white paper can there be than the budget itself? It has all the details about the state’s finances,” he said.

“The actual game has begun now. The Congress will now realise the import of the promises it made. What happened to the [promise of a] ₹2-lakh crop loan waiver to farmers within 48 hours of coming to power? It was a promise made by Rahul Gandhi. What happened to the promise of statutory status being accorded to all the six guarantees in the first meeting of the Cabinet?” he asked.

‘Cong will blame BRS’

The former Telangana minister said that the current government would again try to paint the previous BRS regime with a tarred brush, claiming that the latter was responsible for the pile of debts that the state was sitting on.

“The Governor’s address in this session will have nothing else but blame for the BRS government for its borrowings,” he said.

The former minister also said that the previous government had been tabling CAG and PAC reports in the Assembly.

“We had the finances audited every year. When the Congress was in power [in erstwhile undivided Andhra Pradesh], there was never a debate on any demand in the Assembly,” he said.

KTR also said that Congress MLAs were continuing to speak irresponsibly. “One MLA is saying that the government will provide 45,000 jobs in his constituency. He should explain how. He simply says it will happen,” he said.
