Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) working president K.T. Rama Rao (KTR) on Friday, October 16, stepped up his attack on the Congress government over alleged irregularities in the Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL), daring Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy to order an inquiry by a sitting High Court judge.

Speaking at a party meeting at Telangana Bhavan, KTR said he had long flagged corruption at SCCL.

He dismissed Revanth Reddy’s remark that he would consider an inquiry if KTR wrote to him, arguing that an issue of this scale could not be settled through exchanges in the media.

KTR said the probe should cover the proposed coal imports as well as an alleged Rs 10,000-crore scam involving the chief minister’s brother-in-law. He also said he would soon expose a purported solar power scam in Singareni.

Singareni coal costs about Rs 3,800 a tonne, while imports, particularly from Australia, could cost Rs 10,000-12,000, he said. He accused the government of first allowing the company to slide into crisis and then citing it to justify imports and outside power purchases, even as about Rs 60,000 crore in dues to Singareni remained pending.

‘Drought created by government’

Recalling that the Congress had branded the previous BRS government’s power deal with Chhattisgarh at ₹3.90 per unit a scam, KTR said the same party was now reportedly weighing purchases at ₹15 per unit. He called Revanth Reddy an “EMI Chief Minister” under pressure to fund poll promises.

KTR alleged that nearly 1,000 TMC of water had been allowed to flow into the sea. He said the BRS had urged the government six months earlier to lift water from Kaleshwaram, including at the Kannepalli pump house. He alleged that the government had held back to avoid contradicting its own earlier criticism of the project.

KTR also rejected CM Revanth Reddy’s remarks attributing the water and power crisis in the state to what he described as an “unprecedented El Nino.” KTR argued that other states like Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka were also affected by climate change but continued to use available water.

Describing the situation as a drought “created by the Congress government,” KTR urged it to set politics aside and support distressed farmers.
