Synopsis: KT Rama Rao alleged that Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy’s brother-in-law, Sudhini Srujan Reddy, was controlling Singareni and accused the government of compromising the interests of the company and its workers. He also raised concerns over alleged irregularities in tenders, diesel procurement, detonators and overburden removal contracts.

BRS working president KT Rama Rao (KTR) on Wednesday, 14 October, accused the Congress government of conspiring to privatise Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) and alleged large-scale irregularities in the company’s operations.

Addressing the Singareni Karmika Garjana public meeting at Singareni Stadium in Godavarikhani, Karimnagar, he called upon workers to unite to protect the public sector undertaking.

Describing Ramagundam as a land of struggle, KTR praised Singareni workers for their sacrifices in powering the nation and their contribution to the Telangana statehood movement. He recalled that workers participated in the 45-day Sakala Janula Samme, intensifying the agitation for statehood and putting pressure on the Centre.

KTR alleged that the Congress government had failed to ensure adequate power generation despite the infrastructure created during the previous BRS government. He said the government was blaming coal shortages for power generation problems while failing to clear dues owed to Singareni.

₹60,000 crore dues, 40 lakh tonnes of coal missing

KTR said Singareni management had informed that the state government owed approximately ₹60,000 crore to the company. He further alleged that 40 lakh metric tonnes of coal had gone missing across Singareni operations and demanded accountability for the alleged disappearance.

“Who is responsible for this coalmaal-golmaal?” KTR asked, demanding a comprehensive investigation into the alleged irregularities.

He alleged that Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy’s brother-in-law, Sudhini Srujan Reddy, was controlling Singareni and accused the government of compromising the interests of the company and its workers. He also raised concerns over alleged irregularities in tenders, diesel procurement, detonators and overburden removal contracts.

Questions Kishan Reddy’s response

KTR criticised Union Coal Minister G Kishan Reddy for writing to the state government seeking an investigation into the missing coal allegations instead of ordering an independent inquiry.

“When the Centre holds a 49 per cent stake in Singareni, why is the Union Minister leaving it to the state government to investigate allegations involving the same government?” he questioned.

He accused the Congress and BJP of failing to protect Singareni’s interests and said the company faces a serious threat under the current administration.

KTR also demanded that the Congress government honour its commitments to workers, including the timely distribution of profit-sharing amounts and the continuation of hereditary employment benefits introduced during the BRS government.

Warning of intensified protests, he said the BRS would stand firmly with Singareni workers and oppose any move that undermined the company’s future. He called upon workers to remain united in safeguarding Singareni, its workforce and its legacy.
