On the occasion of National Farmers’ Day on Friday, 23 December, Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) working president KT Rama Rao assured farmers of Rajanna Sircilla district of Telangana of all help from the state government.

He spoke about the Telangana government’s “revolutionary” welfare schemes, which he said transformed agriculture into a flourishing profession.

He said that food grain production had increased from 68 lakh tonnes in 2014 to 3.5 crore tonnes now.

The godown capacity, which was 4 lakh tons before the formation of the state, has been augmented to 24 lakh metric tons, he pointed out.

The narrative was in line with the BRS’ push to project itself as a farmer-friendly party.

To that end, the party is believed to honing its slogan as “Ab ki bar Kisan sarkar”.

This was also hardly the first time KTR launched a broadside at the prime minister.

KTR has already taken on Modi on issues like the scrapping of the windfall tax on fuels, the formulating of policies for weavers, and the imposition of Hindi, among other things.

Conversing with farmers in the Rajanna-Sircilla District, he spoke about investment support through Rythu Bandhu, insurance provided through Rythu Bhima, construction of Rythu Vedikas, irrigation projects such as Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project, free power provided to farmers, and other initiatives of the Telangana government.

KTR said the Rythu Bandhu scheme had been brought in to provide ₹10,000 per acre per year to farmers as an agriculture investment subsidy.

He said that a sum of ₹57,782 crore had been credited to farmers’ bank accounts in nine instalments so far.

“Another sum of ₹7,600 crores will be distributed under the 10th instalment beginning this month-end. A total of 66 lakh farmers will be benefited from the Rythu Bandhu scheme,” KTR said, adding that the governments at the Centre and other states took inspiration from Telangana and came up with similar schemes.

He said that Telangana was the only state where power was supplied free of cost round-the-clock to farmers.

Lakhs of acres of farmland have an irrigation facility as 27,625 tanks had been restored and rejuvenated by the State government under Mission Kakatiya.

Reaffirming the state government’s commitment to do everything possible for the comprehensive welfare of farmers and robust development of the sector, the BRS leader said that farmers have always stood by Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao in every election.

He also expressed confidence that they would continue to support him.
