Telangana State Public Service Commission (TSPSC) Chairman Janardhan Reddy has stepped down from his position, submitting his resignation on Monday, 11 December.

The resignation, addressed to Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan, received her approval and has been forwarded to Chief Secretary Santhi Kumari for the necessary administrative process.

Janardhan Reddy confirmed to South First, “Yes, I have resigned from the position of chairman of the TSPSC.” He cited personal reasons — especially developments over the last six months.

“It was a lot of stress. I would like to take a break, at least for this December month. I cannot guarantee what role I will be assigned by the government, as I am already a retired official. If the Telangana government finds me fit to be posted anywhere, I will think about it. For now, I am relieved,” he said.

Reddy, who assumed office in 2021, has led the TSPSC during a period marked by scrutiny and challenges.

The commission faced notable issues, including the Group-1 preliminary examination paper being leaked in 2022.

In response to a petition filed by students, the Telangana High Court nullified the second attempt due to violations of guidelines.

Reddy’s resignation comes amidst ongoing developments and discussions related to the commission’s functioning, as well as the controversies it has encountered during his tenure.

In the Assembly elections campaigns, the major political parties promised TSPSC aspirants that they would reconsider the functioning of TSPSC and bring the officials responsible in front of aspirants and students to question the irregularities of the system in the commission.

Meanwhile, Janardhan Reddy was among the several people questioned for hours by the Special Investigation Team set up to probe the paper leak, as well as the Enforcement Directorate (ED).

However, he continued to serve as the chairman of the TSPSC and implemented a security checking system for staff to avoid any further crime through TSPSC.

He also met incumbent Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, who held the meeting with officials in the Secretariat on Monday.

K Vamshi, who is been preparing for the upcoming TSPSC Group 1 examination, told South First, “The decision has come at the right time — before the chief minister removed the chairman.

He added: “On behalf of students, one of our requests has been the removal of Janardhan Reddy, but he might have felt guilty so he left the position.”
