Opposition accuses BRS Leaders of mismanagement following TSPSC aspirant's tragic suicide

A war of words erupted between the Opposition parties and the ruling BRS leaders following the death by suicide of 23-year-old Telangana State Public Service Commission (TSPSC) aspirant Marri Pravalika on Friday, 13 October, in the Ashok Nagar area of Hyderabad.

Pravalika’s death sparked late-night protests by students and government job aspirants against the Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao-led BRS government.

Police have, however, said relationship issues were the reason Pravalika died by suicide.

The Group services aspirant belonged to Bikkajipally village in Duggondi Mandal of Warangal district and had recently shifted to Hyderabad to avail better coaching facilities.

Congress slams BRS

The Congress on Saturday slammed the BRS government over the mismanagement of TSPSC exams and delays and postponements in conducting them, which is being alleged as the cause behind Pravalika taking the extreme step.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said the news of the death by suicide of the student in Hyderabad was extremely saddening.

The MP from Wayanad in Kerala claimed that Pravalika’s death was not suicide, but a murder of the dreams, hopes and aspirations of the youth of Telangana.

Attacking the BJP and BRS, the Congress leader alleged that in the last 10 years, “‘BJP Rishtedar Samithi’ BRS and BJP together have ruined the state with their incompetence”.

Slamming the BRS government on unemployment, Rahul added, “The Congress government in Telangana will release a job calendar, reorganise TSPSC on the lines of UPSC in one month and fill two lakh vacant government posts within a year— this is a guarantee,” he said.

Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge expressed shock and anguish over the suicide.

“Shocked and deeply anguished by the suicide of a 23-year-old girl student in Telangana, who reportedly took the drastic step to end her life due to repeated postponements and irregularities in the State Public Service Commission Exams,” Kharge posted on X.

In this hour of grief and anger, our heart goes out to the family of the deceased, he said.

“Thousands of young aspirants in Telangana are frustrated and enraged due to the rank apathy of the BRS government in conducting examinations. Youngsters of Telangana hold the corrupt, inept and inefficient BRS Govt accountable and will oust it from power in the state,” Kharge’s tweet further read.

Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra said she was extremely saddened to hear the news of the student’s suicide.
Priyanka said the youth of Telangana are struggling with unemployment, their future is in darkness despite hard work and diligence.

“The pain that the youth are facing due to repeated postponement of examinations is very unfortunate and shameful,” she said.

The state Congress leaders, too, have attacked the ruling BRS for their failure in conducting the TSPSC exams.

Kavitha takes on Revanth

Responding to a tweet by K Kavitha, a BRS MLC and daughter of the chief minister, conveying greetings on the occasion of the Bathukamma floral festival and releasing songs related to the festival, TPCC chief Revanth Reddy asked whether she is unable to hear the anguish of Pravalika, who took the extreme step due to the “mismanagement in conducting recruitment tests”.

Kavitha countered the PCC chief saying she celebrates Bathukamma and also shares the pain of someone like Pravalika. She asked whether it was Reddy’s policy to politicise the death by suicide of a woman instead of expressing sympathy.

Regretting the death of the job aspirant, she said no parents should face such a situation.

However, it is to the credit of Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao that he filled up lakhs of job vacancies by breaking the conspiracies of Congress, she claimed.

Questioning the Congress leaders, Kavitha said, “Was it not senior Congress leader D Sridhar Babu in the Assembly and Revanth Reddy himself on X who had sought the postponement of the Group-2 services exam.”

The Congress MP from Malkajgiri replied with sarcasm asking if to Kavitha filling up lakhs of jobs meant making her the MLC after she lost in the Lok Sabha polls.

‘Sheer negligence

BSP state president RS Praveen Kumar condemned the death of Pravalika, and asked the Governor to use her special powers under the Constitution and abolish the present commission to save lives of the frustrated unemployed youth.

He further requested the students, and aspirants to not lose hope, and promised that the future is theirs.

BJP MP K Laxman claimed on social media platform X that he had demanded that the woman’s suicide letter be made public but was “arrested” by the police.

“She was diligently preparing for government examinations for many months. But due to repeated cancellations and postponements of exams by the BRS government, she took the extreme step,” he said.

The BJP National President for OBCs sought justice for the woman and also others affected by the “sheer negligence” of the state government.

Telangana BJP President G Kishan Reddy demanded accountability and a thorough probe into the TSPSC aspirant’s death.

“It is truly tragic that her life was cut short due to the negligence of the KCR government. I demand accountability through probe and justice for this young woman who had so much potential,” the Union Minister said.

Calling the death of Pravalika a murder by the state government, the YSRTP party president YS Sharmila asked, “Do you know the heartbreak of a parent, whose child went to a city with the hope of getting a job, returns dead?”

She slammed the BRS saying, “With what right do you ask for votes?, why should we vote for you?”
