It is either Modi or ED for political rivals of BJP, fumes KCR

BRS supremo K Chandrashekar Rao on Saturday, 13 April, trained his guns at BJP for fomenting communal passions across the nation and coercing and intimidating its political rivals into joining its ranks.

Addressing a huge rally in Chevella in support of Kasani Gnaneswar, BRS’ nominee for the Lok Sabha seat, the former Telangana chief minister asked: “What has the BJP done for the state or the country except exacerbating tensions?”

Referring to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Enforcement Directorate, he added: “It is either Modi or ED. There are only two options to Modi’s pollical rivals in India. Either they should join BJP or go to jail. BJP has delivered a buried democracy in the country.”

On absence of schools, colleges

KCR cautioned voters against choosing BJP, as it would only further embolden the party into doing nothing for them.

“BJP was in power [at the Centre] for 10 years. It did nothing for the state. It sanctioned 157 medical colleges to various states but not even one for Telangana,” he charged.

“Neither did it sanction one additional Navodaya School though the number of districts has increased. The Act lays down that there should be one Navodaya school for each district. Going by that, we should get 23 new Navodaya schools, but we have not got any, ” he said.

The BRS chief also claimed that if the people voted for Modi, he would begin thinking that the people were endorsing his policy of not doing anything for them.

He also raised the sensitive issue of the fixing of meters to agriculture pump sets, which is always considered a precursor for doing away with free power supply to the farm sector.

“BJP brought tremendous pressure on me to fix meters to borewells. But I did not listen to them. As a result, the Centre denied the state the permission to raise ₹5,000 crore per annum as market borrowings, totalling ₹30,000 crore in six years. Even then I did not back down,” he said.

Congress fooled people, says KCR

Slamming the Revanth Reddy dispensation in the state, the BRS president asked why it had not been continuing the programmes of the BRS government that were meant for the welfare of various sections of people.

“Congress pulled the wool over the eyes of the people with lofty and impractical and unrealistic promises,” he said.

Addressing the Congress regime in the state directly, he thundered: “You said you would gift one tola of gold along with a purse of ₹1 lakh to girls at the time of their wedding. Where has the gold gone? Is gold not available in the market? Doesn’t breaking a promise amount to cheating people?”

KCR also said that under the present dispensation, the power supply has become very irregular. “We are going back to the pre-2014 days when the power supply used to be very erratic,” he claimed, harkening back to before Telangana was a state.

“We streamlined the power supply in the state in just one and a half years. Now, after KCR has stepped down, how come there is no power supply?” he asked.

“The infrastructure is already there. What the government has to do is simply supply power. Yet, it appears incapable of doing it,” he said.

On Congress’ pre-poll promises

The BRS chief said the people should see through Congress’ game plan and flog it with a whip whenever it showed slackness in implementing its promises.

“If the people are alert and question the government, only then would it act,” he said, wondering what had happened to the Congress promise of raising the Dalit Bandhu amount to ₹12 lakh when the government was paying not even ₹10 lakh.

“In fact, by the time I demitted office, Dalit Bandhu was sanctioned to 1.3 lakh Dalit families in the state. I sent the money to the collectors for disbursal. No one talks about Dalit Bandhu now. The money sent to the collectors is lying unutilised,” he said.

He warned the government that he would lead all the Dalit Bandhu beneficiaries and organise a major protest at the Ambedkar Statue near the state secretariat in Hyderabad.

The former chief minister said BRS was founded for the people of Telangana, and that he would not keep quiet if the farmers were meted out a raw deal.

“As long as I am alive, I will continue to fight for the welfare of farmers and other sections of society,” he said, calling upon the people to think twice before casting their votes.

“Think for a moment what BJP and Congress have done for you before you press the button on the EVM,” he advised the people.
