Rahul Gandhi with Telangana Chief Minister and TPCC chief A Revanth Reddy on Saturday, 6 April, 2024.

Congress leader and MP Rahul Gandhi released the party’s election manifesto at a rally in Hyderabad on Saturday, 6 April, with a sharp attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi for allegedly squeezing money from the corporate sector through electoral bonds.

He called the electoral bonds scheme the “world’s largest scam,” flaying Modi for turning the Enforcement Directorate into an “Extortion Directorate” and using the agency to force corporates to buy bonds for the BJP.

The former Congress president likened it to BRS chief and former Telangana chief minister K Chandrashekar Rao, who allegedly tapped the phones of politicians and businesspersons to extort money from them.

He claimed that the previous state government allegedly destroyed the data related to extortion stored on servers as soon as the Congress won the Assembly election.

At the rally in Thukkuguda, he released the Panch Nyay Patra manifesto for the Lok Sabha polls. Under each Nyay, he unveiled five promises, totalling 25 assurances to the people of India.

The venue holds sentiment for the party because it captured power in Telangana after its top leaders released a manifesto containing six guarantees for Telangana from the same venue on 17 September last year, the anniversary of Telangana Liberation Day.

Though it was expected that other senior party leaders would also arrive, only Rahul Gandhi arrived from Jaipur, where the party had launched the manifesto at a similar meeting earlier in the day.

Rahul Gandhi described the manifesto as the “voice of the people”. The manifesto was scripted with the aspirations of the people of India in view, he said, adding that he felt Telangana should become a role model for the nation in all areas.

He said that in the future, “Made in Telangana should be more popular than Made in China.”

‘Will take down the A-Team itself’

Targeting the BJP and BRS, Rahul said that having defeated the BJP’s B-team, BRS, in the Assembly elections, the Congress will take down the A-team itself, the BJP, in the Lok Sabha elections.

He called the BJP the “largest washing machine in the world”, alluding to politicians who had something to hide or were afraid of the BJP’s strong-arm methods, forced to join the saffron party.

“Today, the most corrupt leaders are with the BJP,” Rahul Gandhi said.

He took severe exception to the BJP freezing the Congress bank accounts. “We are not afraid of these tactics,” he declared, asserting the Congress was ready to take down the BJP at the Hustings.

He said that the party would conduct the caste census as the government needed to know the numerical strength of all castes. He likened the process to a doctor taking an X-ray of the patient to diagnose the ailment and prescribe the right medicine.

The people of Telangana received special mention, with Rahul assuring them he was always on call for them.

In an impassioned appeal, he told them: “Even if a boy calls me, I am here in your midst, attending to your needs. Sonia Gandhi is there to take care of your needs. I am your soldier in Delhi, and I am trying to address all your concerns. I will serve you till my death.”
