Telangana State Southern Power Distribution Company Limited personnel work to restore electricity after torrential rain in Hyderabad on Tuesday, 7 May, 2024.

Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Tuesday, 7 May, asked Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) officials to swing into action and ease the problem of watterlogging due to the unexpected torrential rain over Hyderabad.

The chief minister was away in Warangal to campaign for party nominees in the Lok Sabha elections when he reached out to the municipal body.

Revanth Reddy, who is also the chief of the Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee, appealed to party workers to fan out across Hyderabad and help people caught unawares by the sudden rainfall.

He asked them to help the people in whichever way possible. He also asked them to bring to the notice of the officials any situation that was very alarming and had become unmanageable for them.

Instructions to cops and power supply

The chief minister also asked the power utility officials to restore power supply in areas where it had snapped on account of the gales that accompanied the hailstorm.

This came following power cuts in various areas of Hyderabad due to Tuesday’s hailstorms and thunderstorms.

Meanwhile, the Telangana State Southern Power Distribution Company Limited noted in a series of posts on X that heavy rain had caused power cuts in not only several areas of Hyderabad but also the state. “Restoration underway,” it added to each post.

Revanth also directed the police department to ensure a free flow of vehicular traffic by taking effective measures.

He wanted them to prevent traffic snarls that were commonplace in Hyderabad because of the tendency of water to collect quickly on the main roads in the absence of any outlets.

Helping people stuck in Hyderabad rain

The Telangana chief minister instructed the GHMC officials to go and help the people who were suffering due to the inundation of their colonies.

He wanted them to flush out water from roads where it had accumulated due to poor stormwater drainage systems.

After all, several areas under the GHMC limits also experienced waterlogging to various degrees, throwing normal life out of gear.
