Synopsis: Hyderabad Police arrested three persons and seized more than 40 grams of narcotics during an operation in the Mangalhat police station limits on Wednesday. Bharat Rashtra Samiti (BRS) MLC Venkatram Reddy denied reports that his son, Bharat Raj, was among those detained, but confirmed that police visited his residence late on Wednesday to question him in connection with the case.

Hyderabad Police arrested three persons and seized around 24 grams of hash oil and approximately 22 grams of cannabis during an operation in the Mangalhat police station limits on Wednesday, July 15. The action followed intelligence that a group had gathered in the Puranapul locality to procure narcotics.

The seized contraband has been taken into custody as evidence, and a case has been registered, while four other suspects remain absconding.

Unconfirmed reports claimed that Bharat Raj, son of Bharat Rashtra Samiti (BRS) MLC Venkatram Reddy, was among those detained. Hyderabad Police declined to comment.

Reddy denied the reports on Thursday, but confirmed that personnel from Mangalhat police station had visited his residence in Tellapur on Wednesday night to question his son.

“They interrogated our son because they found his name on a mutual friend’s contact list. We cooperated with the investigation. They found that my son did not consume drugs. He was not arrested,” he said.

Police said special teams had been formed to trace the four absconding suspects, with searches being conducted at multiple locations across the city to identify the source of the seized narcotics and the wider supply chain.
