Hyderabad police questions, issues notice to man who waved Godse's portrait in Ram Navami rally

The Hyderabad City Police on the night of Wednesday, 12 April, questioned a man and issued an appearance notice to him for allegedly waving a portrait of Mahatma Gandhi’s assassin Nathuram Godse during a Ram Navami rally on 30 March.

The man has been identified as 21-year-old IT employee Chinta Hema Kumar, a resident of Siddiqnagar in Gachibowli in Hyderabad and a native of Amalapuram City in the Konaseema district of Andhra Pradesh.

This comes after a case was registered on 2 April against the Goshamahal MLA Raja Singh in connection with the displaying of the Godse portrait and giving a call for Akhand Bharat (unified India) at the rally.

The cops also registered a case against the suspended BJP leader for a provocative speech on the occasion.

As per the cops, Chinta Hema Kumar was questioned in connection to Raja Singh’s provocative speech.

“We asked him why he was holding Godse’s picture. We identified him through video and CCTV footage,” Shahinayathgunj Station House Officer (SHO) Y Ajay Kumar told South First.

The cops also issued notice to him under Section 41 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) — when cops cannot make an arrest of the person suspected of committing a cognizable offence, they can issue a notice to the suspect to appear before them.

The Shahinayathgunj police registered a case against Kumar under IPC Sections 504 (intentionally insult and provoke) and 505 (circulate rumour) in connection with the case.

“Because of political reasons, the police registered an FIR against Hema Kumar. They asked him why he was waving Godse’s photo at the rally. So far, they have not given any further date for his appearance, but he will most likely face trial,” lawyer Neelam Bhargava, who was at the Shahinayathgunj police station with Hema Kumar, told South First.

Oath of ‘Akhand Hindu’ India

In the Ram Navami rally, Raja Singh led a procession in Hyderabad and, along with his followers, took an oath to make India an Akhand Hindu Rashtra (nation).

“I, Raja Singh, am taking this oath to make India Akhand Hindu Rashtra. Till the time India does not become Hindu Rashtra, I will not sit quiet,” he said.

Singh then went on to invoke the so-called love jihad.

“I will protect the saints and I will reply to love jihad boldly, and will not let conversations happen. I will not let cow slaughter happen. I am giving my life for the Hindu Rashtra, and will not divide (the nation) based on caste and politics. Till my last breath, I have only one motive: Hindu Rashtra,” he said.

Talking about the constitution of the Hindu Rashtra, he said that only Hindus would be given the right to vote.
A case was registered against Singh under IPC sections 153-A (promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion) and 506 (criminal intimidation).

Hyderabad police had earlier issued him a show-cause notice on 30 January for a provocative speech in Mumbai.
