Hyderabad witnessed another tragic case of electrocution on Sunday, 31 August — the 11th in public spaces in the city, and more across Telangana in general, in less than two weeks.

On Sunday, 33-year-old K Bharat died in Ravinder Naik Colony under Falaknuma Police Station limits. Police said the incident happened around 3.30 pm when he climbed a building to fix a flexi near Hanuman Temple.

“When he slipped and fell, an iron rod in his hand touched the power line, killing him on the spot,” Falaknuma Police told South First.

Other deaths due to electrocution

The spate of deaths began on 18 August, when six people were killed in Ramanthapur in Uppal. The incident occurred late at night on 18 August at Gokulnagar in Ramanthapur when people were participating in the procession. Others, including Union Minister for Coal and Mines G. Kishan Reddy’s gunman, Srinivas, were injured. They were admitted to a hospital.

The Rath was being carried by hands by a group of nine persons after the vehicle on which it was being carried broke down during the procession. They were thrown away due to the impact of the shock.

Three more died the next day in Bandlaguda. Police said the accident occurred when a 23-foot Ganesh idol was being transported. During the procession, the idol reportedly came close to overhead high-tension wires, triggering panic. Two youngsters died on the spot, while another person sustained serious injuries.

A 23-year-old man died after coming into contact with a live wire at Saraswathi Nagar in Lothkunta under the Trimulgherry police station on 23 August.

A 24-year-old construction worker from Uttar Pradesh died after being electrocuted at a site in Gachibowli on 30 August. The victim collapsed after touching live wires and died later while undergoing treatment. Similar incidents have also been reported from Nalgonda and Rajanna Sircilla districts.
