Murder

An ex-serviceman allegedly killed his wife, chopped her body into pieces and cooked them in a pressure cooker before dumping them into a lake in Meerpet in Hyderabad, said Telangana Police sources on Thursday, 23 January.

The crime came to light on Wednesday when the accused, Gurumurthy (45), confessed during police questioning about the disappearance of his wife, Venkata Madhavi (35).

According to police, the incident took place in Jillelaguda in Meerpet. Madhavi went missing on 16 January and a missing report was filed with the police on 18 January.

Confesses to the murder

Gurumurthy accompanied Madhavi’s relatives to the police station to file a complaint about her disappearance. Initially, he said he knew nothing about the disappearance and aided the police in searching for her.

Subsequently, the police suspected his involvement in the case and questioned him. During the interrogation, Gurumurthy confessed to killing his wife and dismembering her body.

However, the police are still investigating the incident as there are inconsistencies in Gurumurthy’s confession.

“There is no clarity regarding what transpired. Although Gurumurthy confessed to it, stating that he boiled her body parts and dumped them into the Meerpet lake, neither we nor the sniffer dogs were able to find anything. We don’t know why he said it, but the investigation is continuing,” Meerpet Sub-Inspector (SI) K Sudhakar told South First.
