Synopsis:Food Safety officials in Hyderabad found the issues during a routine inspection drive. They have also collected food samples from the warehouse and sent them for inspection.
Food Safety officials of the Cyberabad Municipal Corporation (CMC) on Thursday detected expired food products and multiple hygiene violations during an inspection at the Zomato Hyperpure warehouse in IDA Kukatpally.
The inspection was carried out on Thursday, June 25, as part of routine food safety enforcement drives across the Cyberabad Commissionerate. Zomato Hyperpure operates as a bulk food procurement and supply warehouse, providing raw materials to restaurants, hotels and other food businesses.
During the inspection, officials found 78 expired packets of Kitchen King Masala and expired pizza sauce, which were immediately discarded. The team also found food and non-food items being stored together, untidy storage trays, an unhygienic poultry chiller, and the presence of flies near the vegetable segregation area.
Inspectors further noted food spillages and leakages within the facility, while vegetarian and non-vegetarian food items were found stored together in the freezer, raising concerns over food handling practices.
Despite the deficiencies, officials noted certain good practices at the warehouse, including food handlers wearing hairnets and aprons, the availability of medical fitness and pest control records, and the storage of raw materials on pallets.
As part of the inspection, food samples of peanuts, dal, cumin and ghee were collected and sent to a laboratory for quality and safety checks.
The inspection team recommended issuing an improvement notice to the establishment, directing it to rectify the observed violations and strengthen hygiene standards.
The warehouse scored 124 out of 198 marks, or 63%, in the hygiene assessment conducted during the inspection.
The Cyberabad Municipal Corporation said it will continue routine food safety inspections to ensure compliance with hygiene and food safety standards across food business establishments in the region.
