The Election Commission of India (ECI) has extended the timeline for the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Telangana, postponing the publication of the final rolls from 9 November to 30 November.
The notice phase, which includes the disposal of claims and objections, has been extended from 5 November to 26 November. The revision follows a request from Telangana Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) C Sudharsan Reddy, who wrote to the ECI seeking an extension on Thursday, 29 October.
The Commission directed the officials concerned to be briefed about the revised schedule, publicise the new dates widely through all available media and inform political parties in writing.
The ECI also revised the SIR schedule in Maharashtra, Delhi, Andhra Pradesh, Haryana and Nagaland following requests from the respective Chief Electoral Officers.
According to the latest status report issued by the CEO’s office on 9 October, roughly four out of every five electors who received notices during the SIR had been cleared for inclusion in the final electoral roll.
The Commission had generated 92,88,187 notices for electors whose records contained discrepancies or who could not be mapped to the 2002 electoral rolls.
Deletions under the Absent, Shifted, Dead and Duplicate (ASDD) categories stood at 73.39 lakh. Some 4.95 lakh Form 6 applications for inclusion in the electoral rolls had been filed by 7 October.
