A Class 10 student’s sudden death at the Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya (KGBV) in Raghavapur has sparked tensions, with her family staging a protest outside the Government Hospital in Siddipet on Thursday, October 29. The family has demanded a thorough inquiry into the circumstances surrounding her death.
The girl, identified as Davulagalla Lasya of Gudikandula village in Thoguta mandal, passed away a day after she had returned to the residential school after the Dasara holidays.
According to the family, school staff called them around 10 pm on October 28 and informed them that Lasya had attained puberty. They asked the parents to take the girl home.
When her parents reached the hostel on Thursday, the staff told them that her health had deteriorated and that she had been taken to the hospital. Lasya was dead by the time she reached the hospital, the family said.
Her parents raised questions regarding the sudden death claiming that the girl was completely healthy. They demanded that the authorities establish the cause of death and hold the residential school’s management accountable for any negligence. They also appealed to the government to ensure justice and provide support to the family.
Tension prevailed at the mortuary of Siddipet Government Hospital, where Lasya’s relatives staged a protest demanding answers about her death.
Dubbak MLA Kotha Prabhakar Reddy of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), who joined the protest in support of the family, demanded a comprehensive investigation into the death, action against the warden and compensation of ₹20 lakh for the bereaved family. Thoguta mandal, where Lasya’s village is located, falls within his constituency.
KGBVs are government-run residential schools for girls from disadvantaged backgrounds. In January, a Class 7 student died under suspicious circumstances at the KGBV in Mittapally, near Siddipet, with her parents blaming the school management.
