BRS working president interacting with the media on Friday, 12 June.
Synopsis: Referring to the rejection of Meenakshi Natarajan’s nomination, BRS working president KTR alleged that the Election Commission had applied different norms in Jharkhand and Madhya Pradesh. He, however, added that the Congress party cannot blame others for its internal betrayals and factional politics.
Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) working president KT Rama Rao said the Election Commission had wronged Congress leader Meenakshi Natarajan by rejecting her nomination to the Rajya Sabha from Madhya Pradesh.
“What happened with Meenakshi Natarajan is wrong. The Election Commission wronged her. One thing is accepted in Jharkhand, and on the other side, Meenakshi Natarajan’s plea is rejected — this is absolutely wrong. Congress, too, has wronged her, given the reports of conspiracy against her by Telangana Congress leaders are coming to the fore,” he said, on Friday, 12 June.
The BRS leader, however, asserted that the Congress party alone was responsible for the disqualification of Natarajan. He said that the incident had exposed the true nature of the ruling party before the people of Telangana.
In a media interaction, Rama Rao, popularly known as KTR, questioned the Congress for attempting to drag political opponents into an issue that was entirely the result of that party’s internal betrayals and factional politics.
KTR demanded that the Congress leadership find the mole within that party who supplied information to the BJP leaders. He remarked that if Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy was so fond of constituting Special Investigation Teams (SITs), he should order an SIT probe into the leak as well.
The BRS leader said the Congress leaders know the betrayer. He urged Rahul Gandhi to identify the “black sheep” within the Congress.
KTR further stated that the Congress party has a long history of internal conspiracies and betrayals and questioned the party for blaming others for its failures.
He also referred to senior Congress leader Shabbir Ali’s remarks about positions allegedly being secured through money, saying that Ali had merely spoken the truth that everyone knew.
The BRS leader alleged that Congress has a history of selling important positions for money and claimed that even the present chief minister secured his position through financial and political arrangements.
KTR described Revanth Reddy as a “renewal Chief Minister,” alleging that his continuation in office depended on satisfying the Congress high command.

The BRS leader condemned Revanth’s remarks referring to Hitler and war-related destruction.
He said it was deeply disturbing that a democratically elected chief minister would speak admiringly of Hitler or glorify destruction witnessed in war zones.
“Any individual who celebrates devastation and destruction demonstrates a disturbing mindset,” KTR said. He said such comments were unacceptable in a democracy and exposed the dangerous thinking of the chief minister.
KTR remarked that the people of Telangana would politically bury the Congress party. He accused the chief minister of engaging in propaganda that surpasses even the notorious methods associated with authoritarian regimes.

Expressing disappointment over Minister D Sridhar Babu’s defence of the chief minister’s remarks, KTR said it was unfortunate that an educated and experienced leader would attempt to justify such statements.

KTR came down heavily on the Union and state governments during his media interaction.
He stated that Babu’s support for Revanth’s comments reflected the difficult position in which Congress leaders were finding themselves. He added that history would judge such actions.
KTR criticised the handling of Hyderabad’s monsoon preparedness and urban infrastructure management.
He stated that Hyderabad’s resilience was largely due to the infrastructure projects implemented during the BRS government, including the Strategic Nala Development Programme, flyovers, road networks, and drainage improvements.
He alleged that the current government failed to conduct proper monsoon preparedness reviews and neglected the maintenance of infrastructure created during the BRS administration.
KTR accused Revanth of taking credit when weather conditions improved while blaming previous governments for floods. He said the Congress government has failed to provide solutions to recurring urban challenges and instead focuses on publicity-driven politics.
He further alleged that the cancellation of the Airport Metro project increased traffic congestion and deprived lakhs of commuters of a major transport solution that could have been completed quickly and efficiently.

KTR alleged that HYDRAA has evolved into an institution more focused on intimidation and blackmail than genuine public service.
He claimed that the government was using HYDRA as an excuse for every urban problem, including flood management, desiltation, lake protection, and encroachment issues.
However, he argued that the agency had failed to deliver meaningful results while creating fear among citizens and businesses.
KTR challenged the government to demonstrate the actual benefits achieved through HYDRAA’s operations and questioned the transparency surrounding its functioning.
KTR accused the chief minister of constructing an extravagant palace-like residence costing nearly ₹200 crore while neglecting public welfare commitments.
He questioned where the revenues generated from large-scale government land sales and massive borrowings have gone. Despite raising enormous financial resources, he said, the government has failed to properly implement welfare schemes, pension commitments, and fee reimbursement programmes.
KTR alleged that several government orders relating to the chief minister’s residence have been kept secret and questioned the need for such secrecy if everything was being done transparently.
He also criticised the purchase of helicopters and what he described as extravagant expenditures while ordinary citizens continued to struggle with rising costs and unfulfilled promises.

KTR alleged that fresh investments and new real estate projects have declined under the current dispensation in Telangana.
He claimed that projects launched during the BRS regime were still contributing to current registrations. A prolonged slowdown in the sector could adversely affect lakhs of workers, professionals, and businesses dependent on real estate and construction activity.
Turning his attention to national politics, KTR criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP government, stating that the country has little to show after more than a decade of BJP rule.
He alleged that key promises, including doubling farmers’ incomes, providing housing for all, ensuring universal access to drinking water, and transforming India into a $5 trillion economy, have been unfulfilled.
KTR argued that instead of addressing economic and social challenges, the BJP has focused on divisive politics and creating tensions among communities. He further claimed that Telangana has received little benefit from twelve years of BJP rule at the Centre.
KTR expressed confidence that the BRS will return to power with a strong majority in the next elections.
He said multiple surveys have indicated growing public dissatisfaction with the Congress government and increasing support for BRS. He claimed that Congress was steadily losing public confidence because of governance failures and unfulfilled guarantees.
KTR clarified that BRS intended to contest future elections independently, sans electoral alliances. He noted that the party has undertaken introspection following the previous election and was addressing shortcomings identified by the public.
He said the party leadership and cadre were committed to rebuilding trust and ensuring that past mistakes are not repeated.
KTR also said that BRS was intensifying its membership drive across Telangana. A dedicated membership mobile application was being tested, and constituency-level training programmes would be held for party leaders and workers.
He reiterated BRS’s commitment towards protecting Telangana’s interests on issues such as water resources, Singareni, RTC workers’ rights, employment generation, and regional development.
