The High Court of Telangana on Tuesday, 13 December, further extended until 22 December the stay on the Special Investigation Team (SIT)’s summons notice to BJP national general secretary BL Santhosh in the “cash for MLAs” case.

It also extended the stay on SIT notice to another suspect in the case, Jaggu Kottilil alias Jaggu Swamy of Kochi, Kerala, for the same period.

The notices were served under Section 41A of the Criminal Procedure Code.

The court had earlier ordered a stay on SIT notices to both Santhosh and Jaggu Swamy till December 13. When the matter again came up for hearing on Tuesday, the court extended the stay till December 22, providing them more relief.

It was earlier brought to the court’s notice that despite the efforts of the SIT and the Delhi Police, Santhosh failed to appear for questioning. Following his failure to appear before the investigators, the summons was delivered to the BJP office in New Delhi in the third week of November, asking him to appear before the SIT.

The SIT has named Santhosh and three others, Jaggu Swamy, Tushar Vellapally and B Srinivas, as accused in the case. It also filed a memo in the special court trying anti-corruption bureau cases in Hyderabad by adding the names of Santhosh, Jaggu Swamy and Tushar.

The three names were included in addition to Ramachandra Bharathi, Nanda Kumar and Simhayaji Swamy, who were arrested based on a complaint by TRS MLA Pilot Rohith Reddy on 26 October.

Meanwhile, arguments in another petition seeking a CBI probe into the case were completed on Tuesday.
