The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) has announced it will intensify its campaign demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar and hold a demonstration outside the Telangana Chief Electoral Officer’s office in Hyderabad on Saturday, 10 October.

In an official statement, the party raised concerns over large-scale deletion of voters under the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process, particularly in constituencies represented by BRS MLAs. It demanded a comprehensive and independent inquiry into the alleged irregularities in the voter revision exercise.

BRS Working President KT Rama Rao (KTR) reiterated the party’s demand that the Supreme Court should take suo motu cognisance of the matter and order an inquiry under the supervision of a sitting judge. He also demanded that Kumar step down on moral grounds.

The party maintained that only an independent probe overseen by the judiciary could restore public confidence in the revision exercise.

Constitution first

In a post on X, KTR said nothing was greater than the Constitution of India and that no Indian citizen could be stripped of the right to vote. “Gyanesh Kumar must go. No individual is above the institution,” he said.

Pointing out that the country had seen many individuals come and go and had remained strong, the BRS leader asked why there was such “desperation to protect one man”.

“How can one man be greater than the rights of 1.4 billion Indians?” he asked.

KTR said time was up for Kumar and for “anyone trying to build a quasi-system that destroys the soul of this great nation”.

Following the Hyderabad protest, the party plans to take its campaign to Delhi.
