Former MP Kavitha Kalvakuntla on Wednesday, 13 September, maintained that the BRS was the only alternative to the NDA at the national level.

Addressing party workers at Telangana’s Jagtiyal, which is part of the Nizamabad Lok Sabha constituency, from where she is likely to contest in the next general election, the BRS leader said that senior Congress Rahul Gandhi, who will be in Hyderabad for the CWC meeting on 16 September, was unable to halt the march of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

“Rahul Gandhi is an outdated leader,” said the daughter of Telangana Chief Minister and BRS chief K Chandrashekar Rao, asking him to bear in mind that the people had rejected the Congress long ago.

In this context, she said the BRS was emerging as the only alternative to the BJP at the national level.

“The top brass of the Congress will be in Hyderabad. Party president Mallikarjun Kharge was in Hyderabad recently, where he released an SC and ST Declaration. Another leader says they would distribute pattas to the tribals who do podu cultivation. I wonder whether they would ever update themselves. We have already distributed podu pattas to the tribals.” she said.

KCR rechristened?

She came up with a new acronym for her father KCR. “I used to say KCR meant kaluvalu (canals), cheruvulu (lakes) and reservoirs. Now I want to say that he is a kind-hearted, committed, and responsible leader.”

Kavitha added: “You rarely come across leaders of this stature. He is not an ordinary person. It is our fortune that Telangana has KCR leading it on all fronts now.”

She also said: “Before the formation of Telangana, it was he who led the movement for a separate state.”

The BRS leader said that the Congress was in a hopeless condition. “The people are not trusting it any longer. They talk all nonsense. The people want to see the last of the Congress,” she said.

“In Jagtiyal, too, it is necessary that the party should be defeated decisively in the ensuing Assembly elections,” added Kavitha, currently an MLC.

She said the Congress had been caught unawares over the pace of development in Telangana, particularly in Jagtiyal. Unable to come to terms with reality, the party leaders were panicking, she added.

“Don’t be carried away by what Congress leaders say. You should know that KCR alone guarantees all-round development for the state. There is a rising demand all over the country for the implementation of schemes that are in force in Telangana. Telangana was once a sob story. But it is a success story,” she said.
