Telangana MLC K Kavitha.

BRS MLC Kavitha Kalvakuntla on Thursday, 13 April, took serious exception to what she said was a campaign of calumny being carried out against her by some publishing houses, television channels, and YouTube channels, based on “chats” that had been released by a charlatan who was doing his time in jail.

In a strongly worded statement, Kavitha — daughter of Telangana chief minister K Chandrashekar Rao — lashed out at BJP MLA M Raghunandan Rao for sending the “baseless chats ” released by one conman Sukesh Chandrasekhar to the Enforcement Directorate (ED) to inquire into them.

‘Smear campaign against BRS’

She said: “This is a deliberate attempt at a smear campaign against the BRS. These forces, unable to stand up to KCR, were trying to take it out on me. I do not know who Sukesh is.”

The BRS leader said that there was a sinister pattern to the campaign being carried out against her.

“First a mountebank released a baseless chat, then Raghunandan Rao rushed it to the ED, and then Nizamabad BJP MP D Arvind began spewing poison at me on social media,” she said.

She said though she did not know who Sukesh was, some outlets had been purveying news to malign her image without verifying the genuineness of the chats.

“In the past, too, they tried to spread vile against me in regard to my mobile phones, and later beat a hasty retreat,” she said.

Now, the same media houses were using Sukesh to sully the image of the state government and that of KCR’s family, she added.

‘Scurrilous journalism’

She said it was unfortunate that scurrilous journalism is on the rise as some journalists were not following any principles or values.

Some media houses are being established with a political agenda whose aim is to discredit the BRS government.

The present trend only indicates a further intensification of the campaign in future against the government by running stories without verifying facts.

She said as Telangana people can differentiate chalk from cheese, she had faith in them that they would see through the game of the anti-BRS forces.

They are not dumb to be led astray, she said hoping that ultimately truth will triumph.

“Telangana people would drive away the forces that are bent on carrying out mala fide propaganda against the BRS and KCR, unable to digest the fact that the state was on a higher orbit of growth.

As a tailpiece, she said that she would fight. “We are children of Telangana. We will not bow down before anyone. We will fight the end,” she said.
