BJP MLA M Raghunandan Rao on Tuesday, 17 January, demanded that the Telangana government order a probe into the Miyapur land scam.

Talking to reporters in Hyderabad, he said that the BRS Andhra Pradesh unit president Thota Chandrasekhar purchased 40 acres in survey number 78 in Miyapur costing ₹4,000 crore.

He also alleged that the land was allotted to him by Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao.

Ranga Reddy District Collector Amoy Kumar, who filed a special leave petition in the Supreme Court against businessman Sukesh Gupta for purchasing eight acres in Miyapur, asked, “Why is a similar petition not being filed against Thota Chandrasekhar for purchasing land in Miyapur?”

Rao sought to know why the state government was enforcing the law for Gupta but not for Thota Chandrasekhar.

He alleged that the entire scam took place with the knowledge of former chief secretary Somesh Kumar.

A different stand

Rao accused the chief minister of giving more preference to senior officers from Bihar and quipped that the latter’s BRS stood for “Bihar Rashtra Samithi”.

The chief minister had welcomed Thota Chandrasekhar into the BRS with the intention of doing land business, he stated.

Rao said that Thota Chandrasekhar was providing financial assistance to the BRS’ public meeting in Khammam district on 18 January since he benefitted from the Miyapur land transaction.

Rao reminisced that the chief minister had once described the leaders from Andhra Pradesh as thieves, during the agitation for separate Telangana. But he is now treating them as near and dear ones to derive political mileage, Rao alleged.
