A few weeks after former Telangana minister and MLA Eatala Rajender visited New Delhi, the state’s BJP president Bandi Sanjay Kumar has gone to the national capital to meet the senior leaders of the party and possibly discuss the strategy to be adopted for the year-end Assembly elections in the state.

Party leaders in Hyderabad said he was in New Delhi to invite the senior leaders to visit Telangana to galvanise the cadre in view of the Assembly elections.

However, sources said Bandi Sanjay would be submitting a detailed report on the party’s strengths and weaknesses in the fight against the BRS government in the elections.

Bulking up

In the wake of rumours that a few leaders from the BJP, along with others from the ruling BRS, were contemplating joining the Congress next month, Bandi Sanjay is expected to brief the BJP high command on the immediate steps to be taken to instil confidence among the cadre.

He is also expected to bring to the notice of the high command the serious attempts made by the senior leaders to convince the two suspended BRS leaders — Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy and Jupally Krishna Rao — to join the BJP.

Both leaders are likely to join the Congress in the presence of Rahul Gandhi in New Delhi soon.

During his interaction with the senior BJP leaders, Bandi Sanjay may also request the high command to personally speak with Srinivasa Reddy and Krishna Rao to convince them of the crucial role they can play after joining the BJP.

High command to visit state

Party leaders also said that Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s visit to Telangana would be confirmed after Bandi Sanjay returned from New Delhi.

Shah’s visit to Khammam was cancelled a few days ago on account of Cyclone Biparjoy.

Meanwhile, the state leadership conducted a preparatory meeting to review the arrangements to be made for a public meeting to be addressed by BJP national president JP Nadda on 25 June in Nagarkurnool district.
