A man was allegedly murdered by unidentified persons early morning on Tuesday, 19 December, in front of his house under the Hyderabad IS Sadan Police Station limits.
The deceased was identified as Mohammed Thariq Ali (39), who owned a real-estate business.
Mallesh Sonnaila, an inspector attached to the IS Sadan Police Station, told South First, “This murder occurred around 3 am in front of the house of the deceased. In the preliminary investigation, we found that the motive could be a financial grudge, but we are in the process of establishing the facts.”
He added: “Five teams — two from the Task Force Department, one from Law and Order, and two from the IS Sadan Police Station — are probing the case.”
He also said the police were trying to ascertain whether the victim was an AIMIM activist, as some rumours claimed.
“We registered cases under Section 302 read with Section 149 of the IPC and Section 25(1)(b) of the Arms Act of 1959,” he said.
The police registered an FIR based on a complaint from the victim’s brother Mohd Sadiq Ali, which said they lived in Ram Chandra Nagar, Edi Bazar, under the IS Sadan Police Station limits.
“We are three brothers and four sisters. My brother Mohd Thariq Ali owned a real-estate business,” he said.
“At around 2 am on 19 December, Thariq was seated in a vehicle in front of our residence and engrossed in his cell phone. At 3:10 pm, I heard loud shouts outside. I rushed to the scene and found my brother being attacked by five to seven unidentified assailants armed with knives,” he stated in the complaint.
The attackers swiftly fled on their vehicles as Sadiq raised an alarm, he said.
Thariq sustained stab wounds in the assault. The complainant, along with others, transported him to Osmania General Hospital (OGH) in Hyderabad. The doctors there pronounced Thariq dead on arrival, said Sadiq.
Sadif told the police that one of the attackers was wearing a black jacket, another person wore a white striped shirt, and a third person had a slight beard. He also said he could identify them if he saw them again.
