A fresh controversy has broken out over a set of photographs purportedly showing BRS MLAs misbehaving with police personnel, including women officers, during a scuffle outside the Telangana Assembly on Monday, 7 September. The images have been reported as released by government sources.
BRS pushed back in a post on X, saying the images were “100% fake & manufactured using Generative AI,” and warned that any media house or handle amplifying them would face legal action from its Legal Cell.
Adding to the confusion is the unclear origin of the photographs. The Information and Public Relations (IPR) department distanced itself from the release, with Joint Director Venkat Ramana telling South First that his department had not issued the pictures to the press, and that they had instead come from the Chief Minister’s Office.
However, a CMO representative confirmed to South First that the office had indeed shared the images, but described the release as unofficial. He said the pictures were passed on to reporters personally rather than through a formal channel. The CMO also denied claims that the images were AI-generated and confirmed they were real.
