Synopsis: The standoff has been building since the morning, when the Congress SC Cell launched protests over remarks made by BRS MLC Tata Madhu against Assembly Speaker Gaddam Prasad. Local Congress leaders called for a protest at KCR’s Erravelli farmhouse. Police responded by imposing Section 144 around the farmhouse and posting heavy security.
Police on Tuesday, 8 September, prevented BRS working president KT Rama Rao and accompanying party MLAs from reaching former Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao’s farmhouse in Erravelli.
Police blocked the BRS leaders at the Bollaram Crossroads. However, the leaders broke through the police cordon and continued to proceed on foot.
T Harish Rao, former minister Vemula Prashanth Reddy, MLA Palla Rajeshwar Reddy and whip KP Vivekananda Goud were among those who set out on the padayatra, joined en route by MLAs Padi Kaushik Reddy. The leaders argued with police over being prevented from meeting their party chief.
A scuffle broke out earlier between BRS leaders and the police.
In the latest development, BRS legislative party floor leader Harish Rao was detained at Hakimpet along with other MLAs and shifted to Jawahar Nagar police station.
A large number of BRS leaders reached the Jawahar Nagar police station and demanded Rao’s release.

Tensions deepened further after Shadnagar Congress MLA Veerlapally Shankar said he wished for KCR’s death. BRS leadership said the comment amounted to an open threat and demanded a case be registered against him.
As Congress leaders from several districts headed toward Erravelli throughout the day, BRS and Congress cadres clashed outside the farmhouse.
KTR accused the police of facilitating Congress leaders marching toward the farmhouse while blocking BRS leaders heading there.
He said the police were facilitating “externed” Congress “goons and “rowdies”, while stopping from reaching his home.
“Police are facilitating Congress goons and rowdies who have been externed from the city, escorting them right up to KCR gari residence
But when I try to go to my own home, I am being stopped along with our party leaders and workers.
The police are themselves paving the way for an attack on KCR’s residence. They are putting up barricades and facilitating the movement of Congress goons.
Congress workers, leaders and MLAs are being allowed to reach KCR’s residence. Even large groups brought in from neighbouring districts are being allowed to proceed towards his residence, while our party leaders are being stopped.
What kind of justice is this?
If anything happens to KCR, the government and the entire police machinery will be held completely responsible,” he said.
