Vijay Cabinet’s first meeting reviews 436 schemes, focuses on speedy implementation
The Cabinet discussed measures to attract new industries and investments. It reviewed special implementation projects and future economic priorities of the government.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay reviewed 436 schemes, including TVK’s poll promises and long-term development initiatives, at the first Cabinet meeting held in Chennai on Friday, 5 June.
Electricity and Law Minister R Nirmal Kumar, who briefed the media after the Cabinet meeting, the chief minister laid out a comprehensive governance vision and instructed departments to begin preparations for the implementation of the schemes.
The government’s roadmap focuses on youth development, women’s empowerment, farmers’ welfare, fishermen’s growth, industrial expansion, and administrative reforms aimed at improving governance.
“We will soon begin implementing the schemes announced by the chief minister. A clear long-term vision has been framed for all departments,” Kumar said.
One of the major highlights of the Cabinet meeting was the government’s focus on eliminating narcotics from Tamil Nadu.
Kumar said the chief minister had directed all departments to work in coordination to completely eradicate banned substances such as gutka and ganja from the state.
“Over the last five years, narcotic substances have spread widely across Tamil Nadu. The government is committed to taking strict action to eliminate them,” he said.
Push for industries and investments
The Cabinet also discussed measures to attract new industries and investments to the state. Kumar said the meeting reviewed special implementation projects and future economic priorities of the government.
Officials and ministers were instructed to prepare detailed reports on expediting the delivery of welfare schemes and development projects at the earliest.
On Thursday, a memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed in the presence of the chief minister for three projects to be undertaken by Larsen & Toubro in Tamil Nadu. The projects involved an investment commitment of ₹18,600 crore, which was expected to generate employment opportunities for 8,200 people.
On the contentious Mekedatu dam issue, the minister reiterated that the Tamil Nadu government would continue to pursue all possible legal measures to oppose attempts to construct the dam.
The chief minister also instructed departments to closely study the targets assigned to them and work with clear timelines to ensure swift execution of schemes and public welfare programmes.
