Assaulted the woman before driving off

When some locals tried to approach the vehicle, the car sped away. It is said that three men inside the car assaulted the woman before driving off.Police have seized more than 100 CCTV video clips from the surrounding areas. The vehicle was reportedly seen travelling from AG Pudur towards Irugur. Police sources said further investigation is underway.

On 27 October, the Coimbatore police had arrested three men who allegedly kidnapped and gang-raped a college student near the backside of the Peelamedu airport.

According to police, the gang assaulted the young man with a sickle before abducting the woman and sexually assaulting her.  The arrested suspects have been identified as Guna alias Thavasi, Satheesh alias Karuppasamy and Karthik alias Kaleeswaran.

Meanwhile, the AIADMK’s official IT wing has strongly condemned the ruling DMK government, citing recent incidents that have raised serious concerns about women’s safety in Tamil Nadu.

They referred to two cases, the abduction of the woman in Coimbatore and the reports from Chennai’s Kannagi Nagar about the disappearance of a Class 6 schoolgirl.

The AIADMK said that it wanted to highlight the unsafe atmosphere for women. It put up a banner asking, “Is Tamil Nadu Safe For Women?”

They alleged that instead of addressing this question, the DMK government acted cowardly by tearing down the banner overnight. The statement questioned Chief Minister MK Stalin’s governance, asking: “The urgency and energy the DMK shows in tearing down our banners — has it ever shown even for a single day, in the last four and a half years, to ensure women’s safety?”

They ended their statement calling the situation “a disgrace”.

Tamil Nadu BJP president K Nainar Nagendran has launched a sharp attack on the DMK government, alleging that Coimbatore — once hailed as the “Manchester of South India” — has now been turned into a place where “monsters roam freely targeting women”.

Referring to two back-to-back incidents in Coimbatore, Nagendran said it exposed the total collapse of law and order under the DMK regime.

He demanded that the Tamil Nadu police “stop acting like an extension of the DMK” and immediately intervene to trace and rescue the kidnapped woman.
He further added: “From sexual assault near the airport to abductions on busy roads — it is now evident that women have no safety under DMK rule.”

Calling the administration “incompetent and lawless”, he questioned Chief Minister MK Stalin: “How many criminals will you catch and how many women will you save with such a failed government? While you speak of good governance, women are being sacrificed to predators.”

Nagendran said it was a disgrace that the ruling party still claims to deliver “model governance” while failing to provide even basic safety for women.
