Tamil Nadu criminal Duraisamy shot dead by cops

Duraisamy, a 41-year-old man accused in over 70 criminal cases, including five murders in Tamil Nadu, was shot dead on Thursday, 11 July.

The police opened fire at him after he allegedly defied orders to surrender and assaulted the officers.

Based on a tip-off that an armed Duraisamy was roaming the forest area near Pudukottai, the police launched a search for him.

However, when the officers asked him to surrender, he allegedly refused and assaulted the police personnel. As he tried to flee, police shot at him and he died instantly, an officer said.

According to reports, once the cops spotted him, they fired warning shots in the air. But, he still tried to flee and assaulted the police officers, prompting them to open fire.

Country bombs and a gun that Duraisamy had hidden in the forest area have been reportedly recovered. The accused’s dead body has been taken to Pudukottai government hospital and medical college for a post-mortem examination.

Duraisamy hailed from Vannarapettai near Tiruchy.
