Synopsis: Tamil Nadu Police arrested long-absconding terror suspects Nagoor Abubakkar Siddiq and Mohamed Ali from Andhra Pradesh. Linked to multiple blasts and communal attacks in Tamil Nadu and Kerala over 30 years, they were involved in major cases including the 1995 Coimbatore blast and 2013 Bengaluru BJP office blast. Both were remanded to judicial custody by the Q Branch on 1 July
In a major breakthrough, the Tamil Nadu Police have arrested two long-absconding terror suspects, Nagoor Abubakkar Siddiq and Tirunelveli native Mohamed Ali, from Annamayya district in Andhra Pradesh.
Both were allegedly involved in a series of bomb blasts and communal attacks in Tamil Nadu and Kerala over the past three decades.
Abubakkar Siddiq is said to have played a key role in several cases, including the 1995 Coimbatore Hindu Munnani office blast, the grenade attack at Nagoor Thangam Muthukrishnan’s house, coordinated blasts at police offices in Tamil Nadu and Kerala in 1999, the 2011 Madurai Thirumangalam Advani Rath Yatra blast attempt, the 2012 Vellore doctor Aravind’s murder conspiracy case, and the 2013 blast near BJP’s office in Bengaluru.
Mohamed Ali (also known as Yunus or Mansoor), another key accused in the 1999 serial blast case across seven locations in Tamil Nadu and Kerala, had been in hiding for 26 years.
Both suspects were produced before a Poonamallee court on Tuesday, 1 July and remanded to judicial custody by the Tamil Nadu Q Branch Anti-Terrorism Squad.
