The Tamil Nadu police arrested two men, including a private engineering college student, over allegedly abducting and gang-raping a 14-year-old girl near Kalpakkam in the Chengalpattu district.
A case has been registered under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
The survivor, a seventh-class student and a resident of Karaithittu village under Vayalur Gram Panchayat, had reportedly gone to a nearby field on the night of Tuesday, 23 June, as her house did not have toilet facilities.
Police said two men from the same locality — Maheswaran (20), a private engineering college student, and Ajay (27) — allegedly followed her and raped her.
According to the complaint, the accused threatened the girl, gagged her by stuffing a cloth into her mouth, and forcibly took her to the terrace of Maheswaran’s house, where they allegedly sexually assaulted her. When the girl resisted, the accused allegedly attacked her on the head with a wooden log before fleeing the spot.
The girl’s father, who began searching after she did not return home for a long time, found her unconscious and in a distressed condition on the terrace of the house. She was later admitted to Chengalpattu Government Hospital, where she is undergoing intensive treatment.
Based on a complaint filed by the girl’s father at the Mamallapuram All Women Police Station, police tracked down and arrested both accused under the POCSO Act.
