The Tamil Nadu Police on Sunday, 7 September, arrested a 17-year-old boy from Villupuram for issuing a bomb threat to the Chennai Metro Rail on 5 September.
The teenager was traced after authorities received a hoax call and has been taken into custody for questioning by the Koyambedu police.
The threat call was received around 5.45 pm on 5 September at the Metro Rail control office in Koyambedu. The unidentified caller claimed that a bomb had been planted inside a Metro train, triggering immediate security measures.
Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) staff, in coordination with police and bomb disposal squads, inspected all trains and station premises without halting services.
Security was stepped up at entry and exit points across the network. Police later confirmed that no explosives were found either in trains or on station premises.
Following the incident, Metro Rail authorities filed a complaint with the Koyambedu Police Station in Chennai, and an investigation was initiated. Officials said further action against the minor would follow based on the inquiry.
