Synopsis: A Tiruppur village administrative officer, Muthulakshmi, was arrested by DVAC sleuths after demanding a ₹30,000 bribe for a patta name transfer. The complainant paid ₹20,000 in marked notes during a sting at her home. Caught red-handed, she has been remanded in judicial custody.

Officers from the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) in Tiruppur district nabbed a village administrative officer on Monday, 10 November, after she demanded and accepted a bribe from a man in exchange for processing a patta name transfer.

Krishnasamy, aged 33, from Gandhi Nagar near Karadivavi village in Palladam, had submitted an application to transfer the patta for land belonging to his father-in-law in Arivolinagar, close to Vadugapalayam village.

He approached the Vadugapalayam VAO, Muthulakshmi, 44, who demanded a bribe of ₹30,000 to approve the request, reported The Times of India.

Krishnasamy initially handed over ₹10,000, but Muthulakshmi insisted on the remaining ₹20,000 before proceeding. Refusing to pay further, Krishnasamy reported the matter to DVAC officials that same day.

The authorities laid a trap, supplying Krishnasamy with banknotes treated with chemical powder. He then visited Muthulakshmi’s residence and passed the money to her.

DVAC officers, lying in wait nearby, caught Muthulakshmi in the act and placed her under arrest. She has since been remanded in judicial custody.
