A violent altercation between students at a private school near Tirunelveli, Tamil Nadu, left two seriously injured after a sickle attack on Thursday, 25 September, morning, sparking shock and concern across the region.
The incident took place at a private school in Ervadi, Tirunelveli district, where an argument between students escalated into violence.
According to preliminary police information, a Class 9 student had brought a packet of Hans tobacco to school. Another student who noticed it informed the teacher, which led to prior enmity between them.
As quarterly examinations were being conducted on Thursday, a fresh quarrel broke out between the students. In the heat of the moment, one of the students reportedly pulled out a hidden sickle and attacked another student on the back. When another student tried to intervene, he too suffered a cut from the weapon.
Reports state that one of the injured students required six stitches. Both students have been admitted to a nearby hospital for treatment.
