Synopsis: At its Mamallapuram meet, PMK general body, led by Dr. Anbumani Ramadoss, resolved to defeat the DMK in 2026, extended internal elections by a year, and reiterated demands including Vanniyar reservation, caste census, teacher recruitment, and river-linking. The party condemned DMK’s governance, urged action on drug trafficking, fishermen’s issues, and called for restoring the old pension scheme and reducing electricity tariffs.

Pattali Makkal Katchi’s (PMK) general body meeting in Mamallapuram under the leadership of Dr Anbumani Ramadoss, passed several resolutions.

On Friday, 8 August, Madras High Court dismissed the petition filed by Pattali Makkal Katchi (Ramadoss faction) against the general body meeting organised by Anbumani Ramadoss.

One of the primary resolution of the PMK was to “defeat the oppressive DMK government—hated by all sections of the people of Tamil Nadu—in the upcoming Legislative Assembly elections.”

Internal party elections extended

Apart from this, the party passed  a resolution to extend internal party elections by one year.

The current president, general secretary, and treasurer will continue in office until August 2026. “Dr Anbumani Ramadoss (president), Vadivel Ravanan (general secretary), and Thilakapama (treasurer) have been duly elected by the General Body and are serving in their respective positions. The party has full confidence in their leadership.”

“As per party rule no. 262, general elections to all party bodies must ordinarily be held once every three years. However, with the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly elections expected in early 2026, all office-bearers will be focused on election work, leaving no scope for conducting internal elections immediately.”

“Considering past precedents where internal elections were delayed with the Election Commission’s permission, the General Body resolves to extend the internal party election schedule by one year, with elections to be held in August 2026. Until then, the current office-bearers will continue,” the resolution said.
