Synopsis: According to the plea, the TVK government secured the support of 12 MLAs from other parties to prove its majority, and serious irregularities allegedly took place during the process. The petition further alleged that 24 MLAs from the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK), in violation of the party leadership and whip, extended support to the TVK government during the Assembly proceedings.

A petition has been filed in the Supreme Court seeking a CBI investigation into alleged corruption and horse-trading during the trust vote held in the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly to prove the majority of the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) government led by Chief Minister Vijay.

The petitioner, KK Ramesh from Madurai, has also sought the imposition of President’s Rule in Tamil Nadu until the investigation is completed.

In his petition, Ramesh stated that no single party secured an absolute majority in the recently concluded Tamil Nadu Assembly elections. He pointed out that the TVK emerged as the single largest party by winning 108 seats but lacked the numbers required to form the government on its own.

According to the plea, the TVK government secured the support of 12 MLAs from other parties to prove its majority, and serious irregularities allegedly took place during the process.

The petition further alleged that 24 MLAs from the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK), in violation of the party leadership and whip, extended support to the TVK government during the Assembly proceedings.

It also claimed that the AIADMK had effectively split, with a faction led by senior leader S.P. Velumani supporting the ruling party during the floor test.

The petitioner alleged that large-scale financial transactions and horse-trading were involved in securing the support of MLAs.

Seeking intervention from the apex court, the petitioner requested directions to dissolve the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly, order a CBI probe into the alleged irregularities, and impose President’s Rule in the state until the investigation is completed.

The petition is expected to come up for hearing soon.
