On September 8, Raj spoke to the media outside the Tiruvottiyur police station and levelled a series of allegations against the police personnel.
A man was allegedly hacked to death by a group of unidentified assailants on September 9, a day after he spoke to the media outside the Tiruvottiyur police station and alleged that the cops had registered a false case against him and that he was being threatened.
The deceased has been identified as Pradeep Raj, a resident of Tiruvottiyur in North Chennai.
Raj was allegedly attacked by a group of unidentified men who arrived on motorcycles in the West Mada Street area of Tiruvottiyur. The attackers allegedly hacked him repeatedly before fleeing the scene.

Raj alleged that police had registered a false case against him three months ago. He also accused the police of inaction on a complaint filed by him and claimed that he had been receiving threats from unidentified people.

According to Raj, a person known to his family had borrowed money from a man named Navaneetham. Raj’s mother had reportedly recommended the borrower to Navaneetham. After the borrower allegedly failed to repay the money, Navaneetham demanded that Raj’s mother repay the amount.
Raj claimed that his family had already paid around ₹18 lakh in interest. He further alleged that a dispute over the matter had resulted in an assault, following which he submitted a complaint to the Greater Chennai Police Commissioner.
However, Navaneetham and his family later lodged a complaint against Raj at the Tiruvottiyur police station, following which the cops allegedly registered a false case and arrested him.

According Raj’s statement to the media, the police officials also threatened him, asking him either to leave the area or reach a compromise with those involved in the dispute.
Raj also stated that unidentified persons were threatening him over the phone and alleged that the Tiruvottiyur police had failed to take adequate action despite his complaints.
Raj’s murder has sparked tension in the area.
Police have launched an investigation into the killing and are examining whether the dispute and threats mentioned by Raj during his media interaction were connected to the attack.
