Actor Ambika addressed the ₹50-crore complaint filed by her sister and actor Radha before the media at her residence in Valasaravakkam, Chennai, on Wednesday.
The yesteryear star was accompanied by her brother Mallikarjunan Kunjan Nair and advocate Palanivel Rajan.
Ambika alleged that ARS Garden, which she described as “like a child” to the family, had not been properly divided and claimed that Radha had taken control of the property. The actor alleged that around ₹97 crore was due to her in connection with the property and questioned how loans could have been obtained against the property while she remained a partner.
Referring to the cheque dispute, Ambika said it was Radha who had issued the cheque and subsequently stopped its payment.
“Radha gave the cheque, Radha stopped the payment, but the cheque bounced for me, and the money was lost by me. If so, I should be the one filing the complaint,” she said.
Ambika told reporters that she never expected to hold a press conference over a family dispute and claimed that she had remained silent as she did not want the matter to become public.
She spoke about how ARS Garden came to be, recalling that the family had approached former Chief Minister MG Ramachandran, who had suggested the name for the property. Ambika claimed that the family had worked hard to build the property and that she had a significant share in it.
According to Ambika, the name board of ARS Garden was changed suddenly, which caused her considerable distress. She said a complaint had already been submitted at the Maduravoyal police station in July and that a CSR had been issued.
Ambika also spoke about allegations concerning gold recovered during a search by the Income Tax department, saying the family had sought clarification from Radha about it. She alleged that attempts to contact her sister over the issue were unsuccessful.
However, Ambika said she was still willing to discuss a settlement, recalling that their mother Kallara Sarasamma, who passed away in November 2025, had wanted the sisters to remain united.
“Our mother wanted us to remain united. If there is a possibility of discussing a compromise, my brother and I are ready to talk,” she said, adding that she had previously described Radha as a good friend.
Ambika broke down while speaking about allegations that she had stolen money or property. She said she could not accept being called a thief and claimed that she had done a lot for her sisters since their childhood.
She also referred to a song from the film Padikkathavan that she had posted on Instagram, saying it was directed at Radha.
Advocate Palanivel Rajan said legal action for defamation would be initiated against Radha. Ambika said she would not make further detailed comments on the issue as it was now under legal consideration, stating that she did not want her statements to affect the proceedings.
Her brother Mallikarjunan also warned that if the matter progressed, Radha could face legal trouble.
Ambika concluded by saying that seeing the ARS Garden name board changed had caused her immense emotional distress.
