Veteran actresses Radha and Ambika
Veteran actress Radha has lodged a complaint at the Chennai Police Commissioner’s Office alleging that her sister and actress Ambika Nair and their brother Mallikarjun, also known as Arjun Nair, attempted to encash cheques worth more than ₹50 crore.
According to the complaint, Radha, who resides on the ground floor of a house on AR Street in Valasaravakkam, Chennai, had kept five or six signed blank cheques in her room for business-related expenses, including maintenance, employee salaries, electricity bills and tax payments. She said she frequently travels to Kerala, Mumbai and Bengaluru for professional and personal reasons.
Radha has alleged that Ambika, who also lived on the ground floor of the same house, had access to her room.
The complaint reportedly relates to the business now operating as ‘R.R. Garden’ in Porur.
According to Radha’s statement, the business was earlier operated under the name ‘ARS Garden Studio’ and was renamed ‘R.R. Garden’ on January 7, 2025. She said the change was communicated to the Porur branch of IDBI Bank and that a new cheque book was issued and put into use from January 22, 2025. As a result, the older cheques were no longer valid, according to her complaint.
Radha reportedly received an email from IDBI Bank on September 17 informing her that the old cheques had been presented for large-value transactions in the name of her sister Ambika Nair. According to the complaint, five cheques were presented for amounts of ₹11 lakh, ₹13.17 crore, ₹27.73 crore, ₹7 crore and ₹1.79 crore. The total value of the cheques was ₹50.8 crore.
After receiving the bank’s communication, Radha reportedly contacted the bank and requested that the transactions involving the cheques be stopped. She further alleged that details including the name, amount and date on the cheques had been filled in by her brother Mallikarjun Kunchan Nair, also known as Arjun Nair.
The complaint also alleges that Arjun Nair is facing criminal proceedings under the Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA) and is under pressure to pay a substantial penalty pursuant to an order of the Madras High Court. These claims are part of Radha’s complaint and have not been independently established here.
Radha has alleged that she had no legally valid debt or financial obligation towards her siblings and accused Ambika and Arjun of acting together to enter her room without permission, take the signed blank cheques and attempt to withdraw money through them. She has also alleged that she was being prevented from checking gold, diamond jewellery and property documents kept in her room.
In her complaint, Radha has sought an immediate inquiry into the allegations against Ambika and Arjun and requested that appropriate criminal action be taken if the allegations are established.
