CCTV visuals have captured the moment when Kayalvizhi Alagiri allegedly slapped the SBI bank manager.
Synopsis: Kayalvizhi Alagiri, daughter of former Union Minister M.K. Alagiri has been booked by the Adyar police for allegedly assaulting a SBI regional branch manager. According to a complaint filed by a bank official, Kayalvizhi visited the branch at a building she owns in Adyar and got into an arguement with the manager over complaints regarding a faulty lift. She then allegedly slapped the manager and threatened him.
Police have registered a case against Kayalvizhi Alagiri, daughter of former Union Minister M.K. Alagiri, following allegations that she assaulted and threatened an SBI branch manager over a dispute concerning a malfunctioning lift at the bank premises.
Kayalvizhi, who is also the grand daughter of former Tamil Nadu chief minister M Karunanidhi, owns a commercial building in Adyar where the SBI NRI branch is situated.
According to the complaint, the bank’s Branch Manager Harshin Singh had attempted to contact Kayalvizhi through a representative to inform her about a faulty lift in the building and get it repaired. However, since the representative failed to respond, Singh reportedly informed Kayalvizhi directly about the issue.
This reportedly irked Kayalvizhi, who on July 20, visited the branch and got into an arguement with Singh. She then verbally abused the manager, slapped him and threatened him. The alleged assault has been captured on CCTV.
Following the assault, Singh informed the bank’s senior officials of the incident. He also shared the CCTV footage with them, prompting them to approach the police.
A complaint was filed with the Adyar police by SBI RBO-II Chief Manager Namachivayam.
Based on the complaint and following widespread circulation of the CCTV footage on social media, the police on July 25, registered a case against Kayalvizhi.
The case has been registered under sections 296(b), 329(4), 115(2), 351(2) related to uttering obscene words, trespass, voluntarily causing hurt and criminal intimidation.
Further investigation is under way.
